My name is Supna Jain. As a candidate for re-election to the School Board of IPSD 204, I want to introduce myself and my reasons for running.
Who is Supna Jain?
For my entire life, I have been in the role of a “student” or an “educator.” If there is anything I understand, it is the power of education. I have experienced and witnessed its ability to teach each child how to learn (process new information), understand diverse perspectives, think critically, and become contributing members of our society. Education gives our children options on what they hope to do in life today and in the future. Education has been at the center of my roles as a parent, educator and community advocate.
Born and raised in Illinois, I spent over 21 years in the classroom to obtain my B.A. in Political Science & Communication from UIUC, M.S. in Communication from ISU and J.D. from DePaul University, College of Law. I am currently a Principal Lecturer in Communication and Director of the Speaking Center at North Central College in Naperville, IL. I teach Indian Dance at the Naperville Park District, and am the Founder and Artistic Director of a nonprofit dance troupe. Most importantly, I am a mother of two energetic and active boys (ages 12 and 16), who are the center of my universe.
Why am I running?
I believe in the African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.” I was fortunate to grow up in a “village” that cared deeply about me and my potential. My village began with my immigrant parents, who were educators, and extended to my sister, neighbors, friends, and many others. As a beneficiary of a strong village during my formative years, I now hope to pay it forward and continue contributing to our District 204 village through my re-election to the School Board.
The past four years have highlighted the vital role the School Board plays in our children’s development - from addressing remote learning challenges, redrawing boundaries, crafting a five-year strategic plan, and conducting a master facility assessment. These efforts led to the successful passage of a referendum to improve facilities, ensuring safe, modern learning environments while fostering stronger connections among students, parents, teachers, and the community.
If re-elected, I will remain committed to fully understanding the challenges facing our District 204 families and serving as their voice when critical decisions about our children’s education are made. As a parent, I will remain committed and student-focused. As an educator, I will be data-driven and collaborative. And as an advocate, I will continue to be responsible and a champion for all our children.
